The governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his desire to peacefully accept defeat if he lost the forthcoming Kaduna gubernatorial election. Addressing a cross section of audience during the United Nation’s High Level Dialogue Forum on peaceful elections in the state on Wednesday, January 30, the governor also urged politicians to embrace peace ahead of the election, Sahara Reporters reports. Legit.ng notes that El-Rufai is seeking re-election under the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the February election.
The governor, who noted that Kaduna has been a subject of bad attraction due to the lingering crisis in some parts of the state, urged politicians to shun politics of desperation. He said: “If all of us do our bit, Nigeria’s democracy will only get stronger. The biggest risk now is pre-election violence. As a government, our most important job is to govern the state. “If I’m re-elected, we will do our best; if we are not re-elected, we move on with our lives. We are not desperate.previously reported that the deputy governor of Kaduna state, Yusuf Bala, had declared that the Southern Kaduna senatorial district alone would give President Muhammadu Buhari over 90 % of their votes in the forthcoming 2019 presidential election. Bala disclosed this after a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) had a closed-door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, January 15.
